about

A.E. Paterra focuses Majeure’s analog signals skyward with “Synthesizer of the Gods” – and they bounce back down at you bearing images of celestial wonder, perhaps even visions of “c-beams glittering in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate...”

A minimalist two-and-four drumcomputer beat drives “Solar Fare I,” which unfurls over a sawtoothy bass sequence with the major-keyed majesty of a 1980s sci-fi TV theme, synth patches on loan from Isao Tomita. Featured guest, Paterra's Zombi cohort, Steve Moore, playing Arp Solus and SCI Pro-One. The ghostly synth fugue of the much more introspective “Solar Fare II” wafts in a zero-g field, voices intertwining amid natural radio interference from some distant nebula.

“Synthesizer of the Gods” mesmerizes with a ritualistic drone, pairing a rich analog chorus with slowly phasing sine waves and teases of vaguely eastern electronic percussion. And if you thought that Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” should have just quit with “On the Run,” this track’s coda is for you: A murmuring vamp cycles on and on, eventually becoming eclipsed by filter sweeps before splaying, decaying back into the silent void from which it seemed to emerge. - Adam MacGregor

about

Majeure Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Majeure combines the dark Moog-driven film scores of Vangelis with the relentless drive of Can and the transcendent minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. The brilliant mix of live and electronic rhythms is the heart and soul of Majeure's music, which has a funny way of making time either speed up or stop entirely. ... more
